Man who Hit Girl Scouts will not be Charged

In Redwood City, California, prosecutors say that a man who crashed into a group of Girl Scouts will not face criminal charges.  The man, attorney Paul Glad (59), accidentally tapped his accelerator instead of his break while driving his car, which led to a crash.  After the crash, the case was investigated and police ruled that Glad's mistake was accidental.  Police also said that at the time of the car accident, Glad was not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.  Therefore, he will not be prosecuted.

"We couldn't prove that (intoxication) was what caused him to lose control of the vehicle," one police officer said.  On the day of the accident, Glad admitted that he had used the prescription drug OxyContin, but he was not intoxicated when the crash occurred.

Holly Rogers and her 8 year old daughter were both injured when Glad struck the Girl Scouts group and their parents, who were standing outside of a local grocery store.  The girls and their parents had been selling Girl Scout cookies to store patrons when the accident happened.

Rogers suffered serious injuries and had to have her leg amputated.  Her daughter suffered multiple leg fractures.  The family plans to file a lawsuit against Glad for their painful injuries, despite the fact that he has not been charged with any criminal offenses.
