Defective Airbags Lead to Honda & Acura Recall

If you own a Honda Accord, Honda Civic, or Acura TL, you could be one of the half a million people affected by a recent recall of the models.

Nearly half a million Accords, Civics, and Acura TLs have been recalled due to a defect with the side air bags. Reports are claiming that pieces of metal shoot through the air bag during a collision.  So far several people have been injured and one person was killed.

The recall was announced Friday by Honda Motor Co., expanding on an earlier recall from November to include the following models:

  • 2002 and 2002 Honda Accords
  • 2002 and 2003 Acura TL Sedans
  • 2001 Honda Civics

The company said the defective airbags only affect some of the cars in the models and years listed, and that car owners should wait until they receive a notice from Honda before taking their car to the dealership.  The company said costumers can expect to receive a notice within the next few months. Those customers who receive a notice will be given more information about scheduling a repair to fix the inflators.
