Chicago Woman Files Slip & Fall Lawsuit against Local Zoo

This week, a woman by the name of Allecyn Edwards filed a lawsuit against the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago.  According to Edwards, she slipped and fell on a zoo walkway after visiting the dolphin show in August 2008.  At this time, Edwards is seeking over $50,000 in damages for her slip and fall accident injuries.

Edwards filed her lawsuit on August 18th in the Cook County Circuit Court.  In her lawsuit, she says that she visited the zoo on August 20, 2008 and that she had attended one of the dolphin shows.  While she was walking through the bleacher section exhibit area, she slipped, fell and was injured.  She did not specify what type of injuries she sustained in her lawsuit, but she does say that the zoo was negligent in "recklessly and willfully" training its dolphins to splash water onto the walkways, not warning spectators of slippery walkways and in failing to add slip-proof mats or strips to prevent spectators from slipping and falling.

Calls to Edwards have not been returned and a spokesperson for the Brookfield Zoo has declined to make any comments at this time.   This is not the first time this zoo has been involved in premises liability or personal injury lawsuits.  Reports indicate that since 2000, Brookfield Zoo has been sued five other times.
