Statute of Limitations

Each state has a different statute of limitations as regards to filing personal injury claims. The statute of limitations sets a time limit on how long after an accident, injury or becoming aware of an injury/illness that the victim or his/her family has to file a claim. If the claim is filed after the statute of limitations expires, the victim may not be eligible to file a claim at all. This length of time may vary for medical malpractice and wrongful death claims, and is usually shorter for claims against government agencies.
